Listen, I get it. Taking your self to a new level of awesome is a lot of work. After the first couple days, weeks, months...the excitement starts to wear off. I know you were really amped up in the beginning. You were pumped up and ready to go. You were going to eat 5 servings of fruit and vegetables, drink 8 glasses of water, work out 4-5 days a week (for at least 45 minutes!!), save your pennies, budget your dollars, redo your finances, smile more, go to church every Sunday, read your Bible, clean your closet, keep dirty dishes out of the sink, sweep the floors, organize your paperwork...OMG!!!!!!!! I CAN'T TAKE IT ANYMORE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ok, calmate, amigo. It's ok if you can't take it anymore. The problem with awesomeness is that you need to be well-rounded to ramp it up. So, you start to feel like you're depriving yourself of everything -- no more Netflix subscription AND no more cookies. What kind of life is that?!
Well, it's the kind that reaps great rewards at the end. But, Titan, a friend of mine and meathead extraordinaire constantly reminds me that this is a marathon, not a sprint. (Which is why my particular Mission started 8 months before my actual target date). You have to move slowly, and assume that you need to stop, take a break, and re-group.
Specifically, when it comes to working out, you should take a break. I've heard a full week off is advisable if you've been going hard for a couple months. When it comes to finances, do NOT take a full week off...too much damage can be done. But, don't feel guilty when you have that one splurge. It's just money. If you have a bad day full of negativity, ok. Sometimes you need to ho-hum on the couch* and be sad/angry/bitter. Take that time for yourself. Then bounce back the next day.
Today's piece of advice: take your break. Regroup, revitalize, reset. And come back refreshed and ready to go! See you in a week :).
*Thanks for that quote Snowbird
